Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Development of innovative fibre laser technologies as part of the new product introduction (NPI) team in conjunction with the technology development and manufacturing groups
  • Development of prototype lab demonstrators and product evaluation lasers in collaboration with other members of a multi-disciplinary project team
  • Responsibilities may include aspects of optical architecture design, components development and optical system test
  • Support the verification and validation requirements for new product developments
  • Identification and management of project risk
  • Create and maintain project documentation, including transfer of new products, test requirements and processes from development to manufacturing, working closely with process engineers to ensure design manufacturability
  • Reporting of project progress to the project team

Required Experience:

This role requires a strongly practical, hands-on approach to product development, underpinned with an understanding of the physical principles of lasers and associated components:

  • Successful candidates will ideally have 3-5 years of experience in a technology/product development environment. Some knowledge and understanding of product requirements, design, qualification, or process development is required. Applicants with less work experience will be considered.
  • Ideally have worked within cross-functional project teams to deliver NPI into a manufacturing environment
  • May have some experience of small-scale project management

Qualifications:

  • Degree or higher in electronic engineering, optoelectronics, physics or related discipline. Equivalent experience will be taken into consideration.

  • Happy to work in a dynamic environment and adaptable to changes in priorities
  • Ability to integrate into multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels
  • Hands-on with creative approach to problem solving and the ability to translate engineering requests into working solutions
  • Self-starter with good interpersonal skills and a strong execution-oriented approach
  • Must be diligent, focused and thorough, taking personal pride in their work and achievements
